Gen. Trias LGU grants rice aid to tricycle drivers

CAVITE, Philippines - To improve the plight of the affected tricycle operators in the city, the local government unit (LGU) of General Trias City on Saturday handed sacks of rice to tricycle drivers who were heavily hit by the implementation of strict community quarantines caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a Facebook post, Vice Mayor Maurito "Morit" C. Sison showed the sacks being distributed to Barangays Pasong Camachile and Santiago.

"Kasabay ng pandemyang ito, marami sa atin ang naapektuhan at isa na rito ang sektor ng transportasyon. Sa panahon ngayon, higit na kailangan natin ang pakikipagtulungan ng bawat isa. Dahil kapag sama-sama tayo, malalagpasan natin ang hamon ng pandemyang ito," Sison explained in his post.

Cavite, alongside Metro Manila, Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon, currently pinned under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) after a 2-week Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) implementation due to huge contribution of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Meanwhile, General Trias LGU reported 932 confirmed cases with 14 of those are fresh cases, in which 171 are considered active as of Monday, August 24.

GenTri also announced 59 additional recoveries which raises the total number of recoveries to 747, while the toll of 14 deaths remain unchanged.

Out of the 896 total cases, Brgy. San Francisco still holds the greatest number of COVID-19 patients in the city with 286 total cases.

The nearest testing center in Dasmariñas City, the De La Salle Medical & Health Sciences Institute Molecular Laboratory, tallies a yield of 335 COVID-19 tests as of August 26, utilizing 126% of their maximum capacity of 264 tests.
