Telco Fiasco: Students Need Improvements

Globe Telecom and Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) are two of the biggest network providers in the Philippines. Eventhough being in the industry for years, their services are still, somewhat, "inadequate", and their lack of sufficiency is a huge factor for students learning online.

Filipinos have endured years of difficulty of finding a stable signal and a good internet connection, but now that COVID-19 is yet to be defeated, the Department of Education (DepEd) has planned to cancel all face-to-face classes, and considered online learning, But since unstable internet is a separate battle, this is guaranteed to wield a bad result on learners and teachers.

During these hard times, Filipinos has continued to slam Globe and PLDT due to the poor performances they've been experiencing for a while. Now that these network providers are still raining hate before classes start, we can safely assume what more these companies will face once the learning starts.

As an attempt for these providers to notice their concerns, social media has become their home for addressing their outrage towards them online. Sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and many more are sometimes filled with rants and outbursts for a change.

In fact, it's not just the public that have had enough of this. Even President Rodrigo Duterte has pointed out the shortcomings of the network providers. He even threatened them of expropriation unless a good change will be experienced. 

These internet providers should prioritize the students for they, too, are still finding it a hard time to adjust to the new normal. One day, these students will face their time to conquer the world, and we shouldn't let them be the change that they have been longing to grasp.

"Kindly improve the services before December," Duterte disclosed on his 5th State of the Nation Address, and also, fittingly, the public has been screaming for. This is a good opportunity for Globe and PLDT to step up so students can enjoy a smooth online learning experience, and to make bad internet a thing in the past.
